OrbitGit documentation

Start here

Your first repository

Set up an account, connect storage, and push your first project.

1. Set up your account

  1. Sign in to OrbitGit. Complete your username and nickname when prompted.
  2. Open My storage and configure your own storage before creating or importing a repository.

2. Install and sign in

Download the installer, review it, then run it. It selects your platform and verifies the CLI checksum. Device sign-in opens a browser; approve it with your website account.

Terminal
curl -fsSL https://orbitgit.com/install.sh -o orbitgit-install.sh
less orbitgit-install.sh
sh orbitgit-install.sh
orbitgit auth login --host https://orbitgit.com
orbitgit auth status

3. Create and push a project

Run this from your existing Git project. Replace my-app with your project name. The CLI creates the hosted repository and configures its remote.

Terminal
orbitgit repo create my-app --private --source . --push
# Later, commit and push changes:
orbitgit commit -am "Update my app"
orbitgit push

Git pushes update source code and repository activity. Publishing downloadable releases is a separate, explicit action.

4. Work from the browser

Open Repositories and select your project. Files and Commits show source and history; the branch selector switches branches. Owners can edit files, merge branches, configure builds, and publish releases.
