API and agent integrations

REST API

The API covers repositories, files, commits, branches, merges, GitHub sync, storage/cache profiles, releases, and builds. Authenticate with an OrbitGit device token as a Bearer credential. Cookie-authenticated writes require same-origin requests.

OpenAPI lists current paths and request bodies. API operations enforce account and repository permissions.

MCP and AI clients

The remote MCP endpoint is https://orbitgit.com/api/mcp with OAuth authorization. Register it in a compatible client and complete browser sign-in and consent.

Codex can use an installed OrbitGit skill. ChatGPT uses its app/connector connection flow; $orbitgit:orbitgit is Codex skill syntax. Operations depend on the installed client integration and OAuth scopes.

A desktop-only plugin listing does not establish a ChatGPT web connection. Connect the remote MCP app in the client that will use it.

Local coding tools

Clone a project and run your coding tool inside it. GitHub-native tools can use a linked GitHub repository; pull their changes back to OrbitGit explicitly.
