CLI installation and updates

Use orbitgit, orb, or ob for daily Git and account tasks.

Install and authenticate

Download CLI provides Linux/macOS binaries and the Bun script fallback. The installer verifies checksums and supports NixOS. orbitgit, orb, and ob are aliases.

Terminal
curl -fsSL https://orbitgit.com/install.sh -o orbitgit-install.sh
less orbitgit-install.sh
sh orbitgit-install.sh
orbitgit auth login --host https://orbitgit.com
orbitgit auth status

Everyday commands

Most repository commands use the clone’s remote. Release and build management also accept --repo owner/name and --host URL. Use orbitgit help or orbitgit help release / build / github for exact options.

Terminal
orbitgit repos list
orbitgit clone your-user/my-app
cd my-app
orbitgit commit -am "Update app"
orbitgit push
orbitgit github status
orbitgit release list
orbitgit build status

Automatic and manual updates

When enabled, automatic updates check on each normal command in the background. The running command uses its current version; later invocations use the update. Downloads are verified for size, checksum, and version before replacement.

Terminal
orbitgit update # Update now
orbitgit update --check # Check without installing
orbitgit update status
orbitgit update auto on
orbitgit update auto off
# Disable for one command:
ORBITGIT_AUTO_UPDATE=0 orbitgit repos list

Multiple hosts

Credentials are scoped to their host. Use auth status to confirm the account when a repository seems missing.

Terminal
orbitgit auth login --host https://your-orbitgit.example
orbitgit auth switch https://orbitgit.com
orbitgit auth logout --host https://your-orbitgit.example
